The Difficulty Of Being Oneself

Written By Sahithi Divi

In the dire need of circumstances, when comes the time to act for yourself , what stops you ? What are the thoughts that hold you back from fighting back with the inner voice which knows how the spark will admit to fire ?

We often think about what is not there. It is time to revise the strengths and use them for good. This process obviously comes inclusive of the withered flashes of flying time.

Read the below lines to find out reasons behind the difficulty of being oneself ….

  • Answerability is certain , avoid it.
  • Individuality is a human right that can be enjoyed through a learning process.
  • Recognition cannot be voluntary.
  • Chances if not given can be taken.
  • Protection is a habit born out of being protected.
  • Expectation can create doubts.
  • Surprises are the way of life independent of their nature.

The difficulty of being oneself is not a condition, infact it is just the beginning of an other chapter.

Kanya = (Fresh) daughter ; Daan = Donation ? I Oppose This Practise

Kanyadaan is giving away the bride as a symbolic marriage ritual . Father of the Bride take’s his daughters hand and places it in the Groom’s hand, requesting for him to accept his daughter to be an equal partner. When I google the word ‘Kanya ‘ , it confuses me what a modest, fresh and virgin daugther means. This is performed in order to transfer the responsibility of daughter into the hands of the groom and his family. In my opinion giving away your daughter in donation to wash your sins after bringing her up with such compassion does not fit well with my beliefs. Along with the changing times we forgot to update the rituals to what applies today and why ? The big change is hard to imagine but what about you who is reading this ?

While we are talking about serious social issues leading to gender inequality and the changes we cannot bring on the larger scale, what about advocating for your own equality to stand as a strong example for others to begin their life not as a donated object but a person who underwent a celebration of their union called marriage.

By practising Kanyadaan, the positioning of woman in the family is naturally a draft of bound customs. A lot speaks about the things that we do not question about. There must be some beginning , a collective voice and a powerful repulsion about how we demonstrate rights,in public in form of customs. Due to the potrayal of idiolic rituals gender bias get priorly infused on public platforms and hence, such unopposed beliefs become common norms.

“Unopposed beliefs become common norms”.

Kanyadaanam is a personal expirience which one goes through and it is your own descision to question it or to convert that to a meaningful context that hooks to your view of life. While this ritual occurs at the start of wedding journey , it lays foundation to behavioral hierarchy and common expectation for millions of uniquely different girls. Inferiority need not be economic status , it can also be highly comparable to how she is treated or how her decision making naturally becomes someone else’s right or responsibility overnight.

Everything begins with you. Let us know your thoughts about this custom and why we must bring an end to it as it gives a very inequal picture to the whole world from where the life of a girl begins after marriage.

I raise my voice against donating daughters publicly in a wedding celebration.

Are You A Working Women In India ?

Written by Sahithi Divi

When we divide the gender roles, work life creates a complete different pressure for men , women and neutral genders respectively. While men are trained to be the bread earners and women are seasoned to believe that household is naturally their responsibility. Bringing the discussion to working environments/ offices, career is laregly impacted by the gender roles forced on you.

Productivity, growth and performance is not fully entitled on the basis of one’s real worth instead it is polluted by the seeds of wrong beliefs taught in the childhood which grows into burning down a firing soul from performing.

Why are women are expected to be employees , not leaders ? Creation of a women leader is a special story to tell , that is the irony. We are not used to being lead by women ; neither at homes nor at work place.

Fathers are not allocated paid paternal leave in majority of the industries. A child grows up looking at his mother sacrifice her career in most of the cases. Setting right examples for children is important. In this case corporates needs to think for the long term benefits.

Office work is not the only work delivered by women. Constant responsibilty of home for lifetime comes without holidays and perks. Developing nations have a long way to go when it comes to defining gender roles.

Apparently women are tagged as bossy, over ambitious, bad mothers, careless wives, slutty for going out of their way and out performing in their passion and career.

Men are forced into the cycle of competing for a betterment. Well that is a lot ofpressure to carry. This compulsion over him is creating an imbalance in acceptance of women leadership.

Women don’t negotiate competent salaries because they compromise it to getting a job itself in the first place. Various factors are like family approval, safety, under playing negotiation skills put the women on the inferior end. Hence, accepting a low pay is also a key reason for the pay gap between genders.

Girls are dreaming about breaking the stereotypes. When will they start dreaming for leadership ?

WE ALL ARE EQUAL...

DIFFERENCES WE EXPIRIENCE ARE CREATED BY SOMEONE ELSE… EVERYBODY HAS THE SAME POWER AS YOU...

YOUR STORY MUST BE WRITTEN BY YOU…

DON’T GIVE ANYBODY THE POWER TO FEEL THAT THEY CAN TELL YOU WHAT YOU ARE CAPABLE OF.

Where Is Gender Equality In India ?

Written by Sahithi Divi

India is the world’s largest democracy and second largest populous country. With stinkingly diversified geography compassed with an ancient history, India is excelling rapidly in technology, skill building and various fields. But what is the place of Gender Equality in India ? What are the areas affected due to the deeply rooted Gender Inequality? How can it bleach into an outburst of social downfall ?

The Sustainable Development Goal 5 – Gender Equality to me, converts into equal opportunites and access to economic resources for every person regardless of gender or behavioral uniquness. In addition to the brutal practices fought against Gender like Female Genital Mutilation, Child marriage, Discrimination against men through child labour and many more, it is very challenging to gauge the impact of Gender Equality just with it’s definition, as it prevails in soo many forms on every level in almost all sectors. Let us explore some basics of picturing the futuristic red zones in Gender Bias…

Bottomline Workforce
  • Regardless of the social hierarchy, gender bias exists in Politics, Healthcare, Economic positions, Entertainment, Education, Sports, Aviation , Agriculture, Low income working forces and Homes.
  • The challenge comes in form of Right to Education, Employment, Descison making, Marital implications, Financial access, Socio- economic limitations, Professional bottomline choices and Gender based behavioral expectations.
  • Resulting in seperation of normalcy between different genders at young age that supresses my transgender friends to speak up, young girls to drop out for home needs or marriage and men to discontinue education for a daily wage.
  • While the problem is socially stubborn, the change has to start from Homes? Schools? Work place? Government? – to create awareness asking for a mindshift in unlearning the stereotypes that came along.
  • We must come together and believe strongly that Gender Equality accelerates the country’s economic growth. By providing communication channels, digital tools, reducing the financial stigma on men, maternity support and women empowerment indexes creating socially aware and healthier families.
  • Discrimination of any gender hampers the balance in performace at home, public or private sector – affecting the productivity that will benefit everyone in the end.
  • Gender Equality is far more than a fundamental right. The only sustainable way to achieve it is to be aware, create awareness, empower others and don’t stop!

Above is an introduction for the key role indicators and challenges faced by Gender Equality that are affecting us like an epidemic. Let us build on this idea – to live the dream of a world free from Gender Inequality.

Men – In The War Of Gender Polarization

Written By Sahithi Divi

Thoughts revisited ( pic : pier 39, San Fransisco )

In these times of extremism, are men able to leverage from the war of gender inequality? Men are being socially subjected to focul standards that forces an embarking imbalance in their self discovery. If a woman is born with pre made choices for her , a man is born with precisely oriented responsibilities for him to deliver. There are ofcourse two sides of gender inequality, but being a firm believer of cross functional ( Men and Women supporting each other ) compatibility benefits, I start off to brainstorm my inferences about the social stigma that is encountered by ‘Men’ in the name of Gender Polarization.

Myths that can affect men

  • Don’t cry like a girl ‘ – Such a mean phrase, that can reduce a person to subjective confusion, not only about his external behaviour but also damages the formation of an internal co existent mind set.
  • Man up – Really ? Does it refer to Strength? Bravery? Drive of Sex? or Built? What we repeatedly say, becomes what we believe, which in turn becomes who we are… Let us promote a world free of ‘ Manning up’ for Men.
  • Homemaker – The greatest things we say about a homemaker ; will we still say all the greatest things if the homemaker is a Man ?
  • Identity Crisis – ‘ Man – Money – Measure ‘ is a deeply engraved carving over a man’s life which means – measure the man with money. Let us create an emotionally insured world for men.
  • Emotional competency – Although empathy can be wonderfully exhibited by men yet they are more vulnerable to expression and often hold back from showing a weakness without restraint.
  • Perfection – Expectation of perfection parasites over men with compulsory deliverables, leaving no choice but to be left wanting to be more better.
  • Men Are From Mars Women Are From Venus – We are all united by the means of humanity, nature and resources. Diversity gives differential learning whereas it does not mean that men and women are opposites by nature.

An old man once said to me , ” It is easier to raise strong children than it is to repair broken men “. ( St. Anthony’s Foundation ) Think about it…
